Practice Your Casting For Accuracy and Distance
To
become a good fly caster you need to develop good technique and then
practice, practice and practice some more. Practice both short accurate
casting as well as long distance casting. There are times when you will
need to do both. For example, if you are fly fishing small mountain streams than you will be making short accurate casts. If you are fly fishing saltwater,
on the other hand, than long distance casting will be important to
reach feeding fish or cover lots of ground. The rod that you use is
very important. If you are fishing saltwater than check out this review of the
Sage Xi2 Fly Rod. For trout fishing in freshwater check out this review of the
Sage Launch. You also might want to read about the
G. Loomis NativeRun GLX Fly Rod.
Correct technique is also important. Learn how to cast a fly rod correctly.
Try practicing against a wall. Just imagine that there is a clock
hanging on the wall that is at the same level as your shoulder. Place
markers, such as black electric tape, at the 11:00 and 1:00 clock
positions. Practice casting against these markers for a few minutes
each day to improve your accuracy and style.
